Qi Gong/Yin Yoga with Joyce
Thursdays 11 AM – 12 PM
Yin Yoga consists of a series of long-held, passive floor poses that stimulate and work to remove blocks in the myofascial tissue in the body. This has the effect of balancing the body’s internal organs and systems. Students are encouraged create the shape of the pose by working up to their edge to gently open connective tissues with slow, steady holds from 3 to 5 minutes, and sometimes longer. A Yin practice complements more vigorous and dynamic Yang-style yoga. It offers a more meditative, yet intense approach to yoga, that cultivates inner silence, stillness and spaciousness.
Qigong is an ancient Chinese health care system that integrates physical postures, breathing techniques, meditation and focused intention. Qi is defined as vital energy, breath or spirit and Gong is defined as skill or practice. While the Yin practice will help to open the yin tissues and joints of the body, the gentle movements of Qi gong work to increase fluid movement (blood, synovial and lymph) through the body while building mindful awareness of how the body moves through space. Qi Gong is the 3-prong pathway to health and longevity, spiritual work, and martial arts.
