If you need to shovel, here are a few tips that may help avoid an aching back!
Warm up legs and tummy!   Core exercises are best to prepare for this endeavor.
Think layers
–  remove  snow at three levels- top. middle and bottom. Scoop appropriately.
Throw to front, not side.
– When possible  push  snow to  front  to avoid twisting  your spine
Change hands-
place shovel in both hands for even wear and tear on  torso.
Push not toss-
avoid twisting ,  try to push snow  rather than lift and toss.
If all else fails- hire a snow blower !!!   Your back will thank you
